In early 1994 Jessica Helfand approached me and asked me to help her develop a presentation for the Discovery Channel. The goal was to sell them on the idea of developing a "Digital Channel" using the new World Wide Web. We developed an interactive demo which showed how the web would look like in 2 years time (i.e. 1995). The process succeeded and we entered into a 1 year project to design and produce their new web site.

We soon found ourselves designing, scripting and debugging 150 web pages a Week (!) without any of the automated tools we are all used to today. I put together a team, equipped them with workstations and work processes and the show was on the road.

We were designing and developing in a virgin territory- we had the freedom to explore models of interaction and story-telling on the web and learned many important lessons. It was an exhilarating ride!

The project received a number of awards, among them the Award of Excellence in Information Design in the 1996 Communication Arts Design Annual
